Staffordshire Police has been made aware that some residents in the Codsall area have received letters relating to a crime survey, which may be followed by a visit from a survey interviewer.

The letters contain official branding from the Office for National Statistics and include a unique reference number. Following enquiries by Officers, this survey appears to be legitimate. However, residents are reminded that official interviewers should always carry valid identification and should be willing to produce it upon request.

As a general safety measure, if anyone calls at your door claiming to represent a business, organisation, or other agency, you should ask to see valid identification before engaging in conversation.

Residents who receive a letter and subsequent visit from a crime survey interviewer should be aware that participation in the survey is entirely voluntary. If you do not feel comfortable answering questions or taking part, you are under no obligation to do so.

As always, residents are not required to engage with anyone who attends their property unexpectedly. A sensible degree of caution should be exercised.
